The Power of One Another

Forgive One Another
February 23, 2025

“Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive.” —C.S. Lewis

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32, ESV)

  1. What forgiveness is not:
    1. Forgiveness is not excusing
    2. Forgiveness is not forgetting
    3. Forgiveness is not reconciling
    4. Forgiveness is not a feeling
  2. What forgiveness is:
    1. Forgiveness is the gracious act of letting go of resentment, anger, or the desire for revenge against someone who has wronged you.
  3. What forgiveness requires:
    1. Release and replace
      • Ephesians 4:31-32; Colossians 3:12-13
    2. Embrace endless forgiveness
      • Matthew 18:21-22
    3. Ask the Father to help you to forgive
      • Matthew 6:9,12; Matthew 6:14-15
    4. Contemplate Christ more than anything else
      • Hebrews 12:2; Luke 23:34

Bottom Line: People forgiven by Jesus ought to forgive like Jesus.
